History
Our parent company was founded in 1954 as the Tachikawa Spring Co., making springs for automotive seats. Since that time, its products have grown to include automotive seats, frames, mechanisms, foam and soft trim. Combining all of these components into complete seat systems, our parent company has become the largest independent seat supplier in Japan, supplying to nine of the eleven Original Equipment Manufacturer’s (OEM) in Japan. As the company’s products began to grow and change, so did its name, hence the name, Tachi-S Co., Ltd.
Many people wonder what the “S” in Tachi-S stands for. Actually, it is believed to have three different meanings:
S = The Saitos, the founders of our company
S = The Spring, the original product of our company
S = The prefix “Syn”, the spirit of our company motto, “mutual respect and cooperation”
In 1986, Tachi-S Engineering USA, Inc. (TSE) was founded as a 100% subsidiary of Tachi-S Co., Ltd. Starting with only three members and a one-office suite, we have grown to over 100 employees and now occupy a 37,000 square foot building. Originally, TSE was established to develop and support our joint venture companies; however, over time we have evolved into a full service design, engineering, prototype and testing company for automotive seating. Our current customer list includes various OEM’s, Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers and continues to grow as we continue to increase our business in the United States.
Tachi-S has a 50-year history as a company that creates inspiration. We work with major automakers as an independent seat maker, delivering 2.4 million seats to the global market each year. Through its seats, Tachi-S has inspired customers around the world. Seats are becoming more important as a key inspirational element in the presentation of a car. As a seat manufacturing company, Tachi-S hopes to continue delivering an inspiring experience for its customers.
